shu uemura has always believed that the most important step in creating beautiful make-up finish is to prepare the perfect face canvas.

“face architect” is the distinctive philosophy of shu uemura, which takes the architectural approach to analyze bone structure, skin thickness, and facial features. with deeper understanding of human face, one is able to layer and sculpt the foundation in the best way to enhance the beautiful features of each individual.

the first step for Mr. Shu Uemura in creating the skin canvas is to “structuralize the face”

bone structure. studying bone structure allows one to understand which parts of the face should be enhanced in order to create a realistic dimension.

individual facial parts. eye areas and mouth areas (O zone) tend to move with facial expressions. T zone tend to get oily. these skin features differ from person to person, and understanding them helped in creating beautiful make-up.

skin thickness differences. even within one face, skin thickness differs from part to part. skin is most thick by the cheeks (S zone), and most thin and delicate around the eye area. by adjusting the amount of make-up accordingly, one is able to create natural complexion.
